About the role

We are seeking a dynamic and skilled individual to join our team as a Sr. Platform Engineer. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in maintaining and enhancing our infrastructure and platform in Microsoft Azure. Your responsibilities will include ensuring the reliability, security, and scalability of our systems, while continuously innovating to improve platform performance and operational efficiency.

Hours and location

Our team continues to work 100% remotely with a high level of daily team interaction and occasional in person meet-ups in the Greater Toronto Area. Future plans around location are still open. Our primary focus is the wellness of our team and their families. Flexible work hours.

Compensation

This is a permanent full-time position (40 hours/week), with an annual salary (based on experience) plus bonus. Shared medical, dental, wellness, and insurance benefits.

What you will do

  • Infrastructure and Platform Management: Maintain and support our Azure infrastructure, encompassing AKS nodes, virtual machines, SQL databases, networks, and storage, ensuring seamless operations and timely updates or patches to maintain security and compliance.
  • Automation: Develop and implement automation scripts and tools, leveraging technologies such as Terraform, Python, PowerShell, and more, to streamline deployment, patching, and maintenance tasks
  • Monitoring and Troubleshooting: Proactively monitor and troubleshoot system issues, guaranteeing high availability and optimal performance. Utilize tools like Azure Monitor, Grafana, Prometheus, Log Analytics, and Application Insights.
  • CI/CD Integration: Work proficiently with Azure DevOps Pipelines and other CI/CD tools to efficiently deploy, update, and manage our applications and services.
  • Kubernetes Mastery: Manage and optimize our Azure Kubernetes clusters, ensuring peak performance, security, and timely updates. Implement strategies for smooth upgrades and patching of the platform.
  • Innovation and Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to innovate and improve the platform’s performance, security, and scalability. Continuously research and implement new technologies or processes to enhance the platform.
  • Collaboration and Initiative: Collaborate effectively with the development and DevOps teams to ensure platform alignment with industry standards. Proactively address platform needs, and lead initiatives for improvement and innovation without waiting for assignment.
  • Documentation: Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation and runbooks for our infrastructure, automation processes, and platform changes.
  • Client and Vendor Communication: Confidently communicate and collaborate with third-party vendors and customers when required, gathering feedback and fostering relationships to ensure platform success.

Skills and knowledge required

  • Experience: Your work experience includes a minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in Azure infrastructure and platform support, including patch management and platform upgrades.
  • Hybrid Cloud Proficiency: Experience with hybrid cloud environments and multi-cloud strategies.
  • Security / Identity Management: Experience with network security, policies, Microsoft Entra ID (Azure Active Directory), and patching to address vulnerabilities.
  • Problem Solving and Troubleshooting: Proven ability to troubleshoot issues efficiently, with a focus on minimizing system downtime and improving platform performance

  • Adaptability and Continuous Learning: You show willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies. You actively seek opportunities for platform innovation and the implementation of new solutions for continuous improvement.
